How waterproof is it?

The answer depends on the radio’s IP rating — a globally recognised standard that measures protection against water and dust.

Understanding this rating ensures you choose the right radio for construction sites, marine use, events, security teams, or heavy outdoor environments.

What Does an IP Rating Mean?

IP stands for Ingress Protection.

It is followed by two numbers:

  • The first number = protection against dust
  • The second number = protection against water

For example:

  • IP54 – Splash resistant
  • IP65 – Heavy rain protection
  • IP67 – Fully submersible (temporary immersion)
  • IP68 – Extended water immersion protection

The higher the numbers, the greater the protection.
