Smye Rumsby & Dover Partnership Against Crime (DPAC)

Sandwich Community Events Association is constantly looking to improve and better its operational efficiency for its free events, organised and run in the town of Sandwich, Kent – all by unpaid and community-oriented local folk.

We identified the need to improve the reliability of our communication across our events. The previous systems in use was not at the industry standard we needed, and keeping events safe, and running efficiently should not be something we compromise.

When we approached Smye-Rumsby and told them about our need, they were first-class in their customer service and began exploring what solutions would suit our needs, operating across the whole of Sandwich, in a modestly built-up area.

Working with Simon Banks and Lee Davies – they understood our need, identified options available, and also wanted to acknowledge our non-profit and community-centred approach by allowing us to borrow radios from them free of charge.

Smye Rumsby encouraged us to get in touch with Dover Partnership Against Crime (DPAC) – so we could potentially utilise their repeater, installed in the town of Sandwich. This way, our distance requirements are completely met.

We approached Dover Partnership Against Crime and appealed to them for their assistance in our aim – improving the reliability and efficiency of communication across all our town’s events (organised by Sandwich Community Events Association).

Dover Partnership Against Crime were happy to help and explore ways in which we could work together to help our community – they understand and share the concept that fast, reliable communication improves safety. DPAC are also allowing us to receive a membership. A membership allows us to contact the District’s CCTV Control Room, other DPAC members in Sandwich, and share information with them to help deter and monitor crime.

Partnering with these two organisations has, and will continue to, improve safety at our events. This is a call to action that both Smye-Rumsby and DPAC were prepared to join us on, and their services and commitment to the district and its local non-profit groups are commendable. We’d like to sincerely thank them both for their support – and look forward to watching this grow!
